Cueing Up for Glory: Year 12 Student to Represent Australia

A rising star in the world of Eight Ball Pool, Year 12 Student Ciaran Dempsey (12/KMLE) is set to represent Australia at the 2025 World Eight Ball Championships to be held in Ireland later this year!

Ciaran, who began playing Eight Ball at just 7years old, recently secured his place on the Australian Team after finishing tied for 3rd in the Under-18 Junior National Championships in January. His strong performance earning him a spot to compete against some of the world’s best young talents at prestigious tournament which will runs from August 27 to September 5. Here, Ciaran ill face competitors from nations including Ireland, Malta, Scotland, England, and South Africa just to name a few. 

Ciaran's efforts in the sport have built an impressive track record, winning multiple State titles, finishing as the Under-12 Australian Champion Runner-Up in 2018, and earning the 2025 Australian Sports Person Award. Most recently, he claimed the 2024 Under-18 State Championship, which led to his national success this year.

When asked what he loves most about Eight Ball Pool, Ciaran highlighted the sport’s mental challenges and social opportunities “I love Eight Ball Pool as it requires problem-solving and thinking skills, along with the social aspect of meeting players of all ages and skill levels.”

As he prepares for this incredible opportunity, whilst balancing the demands of his final year of Secondary school, we take this opportunity to congratulate Ciaran and wish him all the best at the World Championships later this year - where Loyola College and Australia will be cheering him on!
