Having departed from Watsonia to Manilla on the final day of Term 3, four Loyola students would spend the two week break immersing themselves in an enriching and at times, eye-opening outreach experience in the Philippines.
Joined by Head of Ignatian Service - Mr. Jaime McIlroy, Student Programs Co-ordinator 7-9 - Ms. Fotini Veis, and Parish Liaison - Sr. Nelia, our four students embraced the opportunity to attend Mass with their host families and visit less-fortunate communities to provide locals with essential resource such as water and food supplies. Having prepared for their visit over several months, our students were able to experience a different way of living, working alongside people who are fighting the injustices of the society being visited and assisting the development of people and communities.
Our Immersion Programs offer Secondary school students a unique opportunity to participate in a deep and fulfilling Catholic experience that for many, is life-changing. Students who participate in these types of programmes often develop a far greater understanding of themselves, other cultures and the mission of the Church.
